How many people can you take?

I can comfortably accommodate three grown males for most trips (two for musky). I can take a fourth person as long as they are a female or a child. There will be a $50 charge for a fourth person.

How long will we fish?

My trips are for 6 hours minimum or limit, often longer.

Where will meet you?

It depends on the trip. I fish Lake Michigan from three different locations, depending on the time of year. Illinois River trips can also be from different locations, depending on the time of year. For inland trips, we would rendezvous at a prearranged location at or near the lake.

What happens if we have to cancel?

We would try to reschedule for another day. If we could not possible, I will refund your deposit.

What happens if the weather is nasty?

Precipitation and wind will not necessarily prevent us from going (bring raingear/dress appropriately) but the captain will decide if it is safe to go, erring on the side of caution. I will not take charters out on Lake Michigan when waves are larger than 3 feet. However, we may occasionally need to come back in bigger seas.

Can I bring my own equipment?

For casting/jigging applications, yes of you want to. I will have quality equipment available for your use. I will provide trolling equipment.

Can I drink alcohol while oh the boat?

Yes, have a few beers or a bloody Mary. Just don't be drunk, it's not safe. Drunken conduct will terminate the trip at the full rate.

Do you sell fishing licenses?

Licenses should be purchased online for the state we will be fishing in. I do have some one day licenses for Indiana on board but would prefer if you would get them in advance online (see links page). Salmon stamps are required for annual license holders if fishing for salmon and trout on Lake Michigan.

What if I get seasick?

I recommend guests take a Bonine or Dramamine before going to bed the night before the trip and another in the morning when they wake up. This will insure the medicine is in the blood stream. Taking these remedies while on the boat will do no good. For people particularly prone to motion sickness, consult your physician to get a prescription for scopolamine patches. Getting seasick can shorten your trip but payment of full rate is still required.

Will you clean our fish?

Yes, for Lake Michigan trips if a cleaning facility is available. Some inland locations have cleaning stations (Lake Shelbyville) and if available I will clean and bag your catch.

What about catch and release?

When fishing for musky, it is expected that they will be photographed and released. There are excellent reproductions available that can be made to look exactly like the fish using the photographs. When bass fishing, it is up to the customer but it is strongly encouraged to practice 'selective harvest,' keeping the smaller specimens. Same applies to walleye.

When is the best time to go?

It depends on what you want to catch. See the 'Seasons' page for peak times for the various species.
